On arrival at Tweed Heads we decided to stay at the Twin Towns Resort overlooking the ocean. It is a huge place boasting twin towers and five restaurants. Like a mini version of Crown Casino it also has epic gaming rooms with bars attched.
Our room was modern 4 star decor with a nice balcony overlooking the main street with glimpses of the surf beach.
That evening we thought, surely we would get a good meal here. We decided to try their newest restaurant called Orient. It served Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese and Malaysian. I guess all that Asian variety should have rung alarm bells but nah, we did it again!!!!
On arrival the decor and crowd was quite promising. We played it safe and ordered crispy fried chicken, a cold Thai prawn noodle salad and fried rice. Crispy fried chicken came out tough, coated with a very heavy batter. The prawn noodle salad was quite unbelievable. The glass noodles which should be soft and hydrated had been allowed to dry out totally as had the radish and various other salad items. Prawns were cold tasteless frozen variety and the salad came with no dressing or dipping sauce at all. We didn't even get a home run with the fried rice - it was gluggy and again tasteless.
You'd think we would have learnt wouldn't you? The rest of our night deteriorated - with no luck on the gaming machines we decided to pack it in.
Overall would not recommend Twin Towns resort as a destination - too expensive, too corny and the food, definitely no stars there either!
